Privacy

What data i-muslim collects and how we use it.

This page covers the i-muslim website and two standalone Android apps — i-muslim Quran and Salatuk (Namaz) Prayer Times. Each handles your data differently, so they are described separately below.

Website (i-muslim.com)

We collect the minimum needed to run the features you use — and nothing more.

Location

Prayer Times, Qibla, and Mosques near me ask for your location only when you tap them. Coordinates stay in your browser and are sent only to the calculation libraries that produce times or distances. We do not store them on our servers.

Account data

Sign-in is required only for the matrimonial profile, event RSVPs, and submitting mosques or businesses. We use Firebase Authentication. We store your email, display name, and the data you enter on your profile.

Tracking

We do not run third-party advertising trackers. We do not sell your data. We do not have a Facebook pixel or similar.

i-muslim Quran (Android app)

The i-muslim Quran app (package com.imuslim.quran) is an offline Quran reader for Android. It works completely without an account — the full Quran text and translations are built into the app. Signing in and backing up your reading data to the cloud are optional extras you can leave switched off.

What we collect

Nothing, unless you choose to sign in. Used the default way — offline and signed out — the app collects, transmits, and shares no personal data at all.

  • Reading, search, bookmarks, notes, and collections all work with no network connection and no account. The full Quran text and translations are bundled inside the app.
  • There are no ads, and no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
  • The app declares internet access. It is used only for the optional sign-in and cloud backup described below — never for advertising, analytics, or profiling.

Optional account and cloud backup

You never need an account to read. If you choose to sign in — with Google, or with an email address and password — we create an account for you using Firebase Authentication and store:

  • Your email address, and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile photo. These appear on the Profile screen inside the app.
  • A user ID that identifies your account.
  • If you turn on cloud backup: a copy of your bookmarks, notes, collections, reading progress, Ayah of the day history, and settings, saved as a single document tied to your user ID.

This data is held in Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) acting as our processor, and is encrypted in transit over HTTPS/TLS. A security rule restricts each backup so that only its owner can read it.

All of it is optional and under your control. It is never sold, never shared with third parties, and never used for advertising or profiling. Sign out and the app keeps working offline exactly as before.

Data stored on your device

Whether or not you sign in, the app keeps this on your device:

  • Bookmarks you create, notes you write, the collections you organise them into, and the Ayah of the day history the home-screen widget builds up.
  • Reading position (last-read surah and ayah), so you can resume.
  • Settings — chosen translation languages, interface language, theme (light/dark/system), reading background, Arabic font and font size, and whether tajweed colours are on.

This data lives in the app's private storage. It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data from Android settings. If you never sign in, it never leaves your device.

Deleting your account

You can ask us to delete your account and its cloud backup at any time. The account deletion page explains how to request it and what gets removed.

Permissions

The app requests no runtime permissions — no location, no contacts, no storage, no camera. It declares internet access, used only for the optional account and cloud backup described above, and permission to be told when the device has finished starting up, used only to re-schedule the home-screen widget's daily change of verse after a restart.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages, and collects nothing from anyone who reads without signing in. If a child does sign in, the same optional account data described above applies, and it can be deleted on request.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.

Salatuk (Namaz) Prayer Times (Android app)

The Salatuk app (package com.imuslim.prayer) computes the five daily prayer times on your device and can remind you and silence your phone around each prayer. It has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking.

What we collect

Nothing. The app does not collect, transmit to us, or share any personal data — we run no servers.

  • Prayer times are calculated entirely on your device. There are no accounts, no login, and no sign-up.
  • There are no ads and no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
  • The only time information leaves your device is an optional city-name lookup: to show a place name for your coordinates — or to find coordinates from a city you type — the app uses Android's built-in geocoder, which on most devices is an online Google service. The coordinates or text are used only for that lookup and are not stored by the app.

Data stored on your device

The app stores a small amount of data only on your device, never sent to us:

  • Your location for prayer-time calculation (coordinates and/or the city name you set).
  • Your settings — calculation method, Asr madhab, high-latitude rule, language, theme, time format, and Hijri-date adjustment.
  • Your reminder and auto-silence preferences (per-prayer adhan or notification choices, and the silence window before and after each prayer).

This data lives in the app's private storage (and may be included in an optional Android system backup if you have that enabled, under Google's terms — never under ours). It is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data from Android settings.

Permissions

The app requests permissions only for the features you turn on, and everything runs on your device:

  • Location — to compute prayer times for where you are. Your coordinates leave the device only for the optional city-name lookup described above.
  • Notifications — to show prayer-time reminders, the live countdown, and the adhan controls.
  • Do Not Disturb access — to mute your ringer around each prayer and restore it afterwards (the auto-silence feature).
  • Exact alarms — to fire reminders and change the ringer precisely at prayer times.
  • Run at startup — to re-arm the prayer schedule after you restart your phone.

You can skip location detection and enter coordinates manually, and you can leave any of these features off.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. It does not collect data from anyone, including children.
